Wood Sculpture - Letterpress Print
£50.00
3-Colour Letterpress print, Printed by The Letterpress Collective in Bristol.
A4 size on Zerkall extra smooth mould made paper 225gsm.
This image was created for the front cover of McSweeneys 63, published in 2021.
The artwork is based on the Wood carvings of my Grandfather Ron Lane, who was a wood sculptor in The New Forest, England.
He died a few years before I was born, but I’ve grown up surrounded by the beautiful animals he carved. Whenever I think of any art practice, I always picture him in his studio—the careful, attentive whittling away to reveal something beautiful. When I’m working late on a comic, or when I see friends making art or writing, I think of my grandfather in his workshop—the blocks of wood stacked up by the door, waiting to be turned into animals.
£20 from the sale of each print will go to charity Home Start - New Forest; a fantastic charity helping support kids and families within the New Forest area.
